Courses Offered

Islamic History

This course explores the history of the Islamic World from 570–1258 CE, from the time of the Prophet Muḥammad (Salah Allah Alayhi Wa Sallam) and the Arab conquests to the fall of the Abbasid Caliphate in the year 1258. In addition to lectures and secondary background readings, students read and discuss samples of key primary texts, with a view to exploring Islamic civilization through the direct voices of the people who witnessed its birth and participated in its creation.

Tazkiah

Students will learn concepts such as self-reflection, good character/etiquette, becoming closer to Allah, and good companionship.

AQEEDAH

Students will study a short treatise in the foundations of theology; specifically pertaining to those components that should be pronounced by the tongue, believed by the hearts, and fulfilled by the limbs.

HADITH

Students will receive an introductory understanding into the sciences of Hadith, the process of compiling Hadith, the actionable items taken from those Hadiths, along with a study of the science of narrators and narration.

FIQH

Students will cover concepts such as conditions of purification, conditions and pillars of prayer, and their respective nullifiers.

RESEARCH

Students will submit a thesis on a topic agreed on between the student and the instructor. Topics will cover a number of disciplines such as Theology (Aqeedah), Jurisprudence (Fiqh), Legal Theory (Usul), Comparative Law (Fiqh al-Muqāran) and Prophetic Traditions (Hadith).
